Legal Stuff
Your local Relay for Life is associated with the American Cancer Society, a non-profit organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Service. This designation gives the ACS special abilities to make sure as much money as possible goes toward cancer research and education. It also imposes certain restrictions, one of which involves operating for profit. Since the ACS is a non-profit organization, events which make a ‘profit’ are prohibited. For this reason, no one associated with Relay may sell anything to raise money. What you can do is ask for suggested donations. That’s why you may see the phrase ‘suggested donation’ throughout the fundraising ideas. Auctions and raffles are still permitted and are not subject to this restriction. Thanks for your cooperation.
Please be advised that no one may use the American Cancer Society logo or the official Relay For Life logo without prior authorization in writing from Wendy Osinkosky or another American Cancer Society representative. Unofficial use of these logos has the potential to threaten the non-profit status of the American Cancer Society as well as your local Relay. Please do not copy and paste or re-create in any form the above-mentioned logos. Thanks for your understanding.
Your local Relay For Life does not discriminate on any basis and encourages the participation of everyone in our community. This reflects the reality that cancer affects everyone regardless of age, sex, race, religion, lifestyle, or financial situation or other factors - cancer affects us all and the ones we love.
We also encourage everyone who uses tobacco products to join us at Relay 2004. Please remember this is a tobacco-free event.
