Dear Relay Friends,
Welcome to the 2004 Relay for Life event for the Staunton/Augusta County and Waynesboro Communities and Thank-you for joining us in the fight to cure cancer. Our local events have raised over One Million dollars in the last few years and we hope to add much more in 2004. Our goal this year for our area events is to contribute $325,000 to the over $265,000,000 raised annually in the nation.
The planning committee began preparations several months ago and it is our goal to provide you with a safe, supportive and fun atmosphere at your Relay. Wilson Memorial High School has graciously offered their facilities again this year and we cannot thank them enough for welcoming us back. Their generosity has been endless over the years and it speaks to the spirit of this event: communities coming together to fight against cancer. It is a Powerful event that gives us the opportunity to grieve for our loves ones we have lost to cancer and to celebrate the lives of those who have survived.
Many of you who have participated in the Relay for Life have experienced the incredible feeling of support and celebration that lives in the Relay Spirit. We hope that those who are joining us for the first time will know how fortunate we are to have an event such as this where we can share our heartaches and joys with people who understand. It’s hard to describe the powerful connection we experience when we celebrate with the Survivors as they make their lap of honor and at the Luminaria service when we honor survivors and remember our friends and loved ones who fought so hard, but lost. The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life represents the hope that those lives lost to cancer will never be forgotten and that those who face cancer will be supported and loved and one day, cancer will be eliminated.
THERE IS NO FINISH LINE UNTIL WE FIND A CURE.
